“Whatever space and time mean, place and occasion mean more. For space in our image is place, and time in our image is occasion.” Aldo Van Eyck, place and occasion
When intervening on a shared community space in Borj al Barajneh Palestinian camp, we wanted to create the place that can host different practices: nursery, playground, theater, gathering space, and library. We sheltered the site from the surrounding buildings by creating a wood louver envelope that wrapped around the site. The continuity between the building and the outdoor was enhanced by creating large glazed doors and openings. Basic concrete tiles and natural fir wood louvers were used.
